How to Choose A Mirrorless Camera?

The difference between mirrorless cameras and DSLRs is the electronic view finder technology that underlies them. This makes the device more compact, while retaining the necessary functionality and optical capabilities.

In the early 2000s, mirrorless cameras appeared on the market, which were not in great demand due to their high cost and weak technical characteristics. Over time, the situation has changed, and now mirrorless technologies are practically no different from professional technology. In order to choose a good camera, it is necessary not only to know all the technical features of the device, but also to provide for its practical application. My impressions of switching to a mirrorless camera here:  Switching from Canon 5D Mark IV to Sony A7RIII.

Mirrorless Cameras for Amateurs

Characteristics of amateur cameras, which should be paid attention to when choosing:

  1. RAW-shooting mode, the presence of an automatic shooting mode and manual settings;
  2. Some models are equipped with a rotatable touch screen;
  3. Built-in stabilizer;
  4. Shooting video in Full HD resolution.

The most popular models of inexpensive mirrorless cameras are Canon, Olympus and Sony. They all have a different cost – from $2500 to $5500.

The advantages of these devices are the quality of photo and video shooting, the presence of Wi-fi in a number of models. But there are also disadvantages – the devices start to heat up during long-term operation, the cost of devices for amateurs is clearly overstated.

Photographic Equipment for Advanced Users

The technical features of these devices can be generally described as follows:

  1. Video recording in Full HD (4K) format, with a frame rate of 120 per second;
  2. ISO up to 6400 units;
  3. Matrix up to 36 MP.

The advantages of these devices: wireless file transfer, protection of the case from water and dust, color adjustment, excellent video recording quality.

Among the shortcomings, users of these devices highlight the weak battery capacity, too loud shutter sound, slow shooting speed, lack of a stabilizer in some models.

We can say that these models have well-developed additional options that are not always even needed for shooting. But the basic qualities that every good camera should have are weak.

The price tag of the most expensive device from this segment is about $5000.

Mirrorless Cameras for Professionals

Not only are newcomers to photography choosing mirrorless cameras, but also those who have been photographing for a long time and have tried many devices.

Among the advantages of more expensive copies, the following functions stand out:

  1. The presence of headphone and microphone jacks, which are not present in every cheap model;
  2. The ability to rotate the screen;
  3. Hybrid autofocus, which will tell you how best to set the settings;
  4. A capacious battery that allows you to take about 500 shots without recharging;
  5. The number of megapixels is 24-44 MP and the screen resolution are 6000×4000 and the video is 4K.

As with every device, DSLR cameras for professional users have their pros and cons that show up in use. Firstly, among the advantages it is worth noting a wide price range: from $5000 to $13000. All cameras in this segment have a good matrix, which allows you to take high-quality photos even in the absence of light.

Hybrid autofocus automatically focuses on specific subjects, so your photos are always clear and high quality. The body of the products is also well made, there are rubber inserts, thanks to which the device does not slip in the hands. The battery capacity will allow you to take photos and videos for 5 hours of continuous operation.

Among mirrorless cameras, you can find different price categories: from 2 to 15 thousand. Of course, each camera model has its drawbacks, but taking into account the general technical features, it should be said that these are powerful devices that have a good optical zoom, a matrix, and a high-quality body. This is a device that you can take with you on trips and wherever you go, and many devices are also protected from dust and moisture. We can say that these are not just cameras for amateur photography, they are devices for work that professional photographers trust.

For amateurs, the Canon EOS M10 Kit is suitable, for advanced users, the Sony Alpha ILCE-7R Body camera will be interesting, but a professional photographer should purchase the Fujifilm X-T20 Body.
